Leawo Blu-ray player for windows is 100% free! It claims to be the best free one available and it really is. It may also be needed when MakeMKV cannot differentiate between two different versions of a movie, such as the director’s cut and theatrical version.Just in case you were wondering, yes, there really is free Blu-ray playing software for Windows. This is when you will need to use the Blu-ray player method. However, MakeMKV may not be able to find the proper MPLS files with some movies and it never seems to work with television shows.

I resorted to using the dreaded Java to allow MakeMKV to find the main movie file, when it is supported. The part that will take the longest is waiting for the Blu-ray player program to read all of the MPLS files. You could start the program MakeMKV (free while in beta) and find this MPLS file.
In this example, you would know the episode of interest is 00464.mpls. It should look something like this (numbers will obviously be different). This number should stay constant once the movie/episode has started. Once you have selected the movie/episode, watch Process Monitor and see what number MPLS appears. You will not likely be able to scroll or click on menu options, so you will need to use the on-screen remote. You do this by selecting them in the Blu-ray player program. Now that all MPLS files have been read by the player, you can select the main movie file or episodes. I have PowerDVD (that supports Blu-ray) and it was much faster. You will know when it is done because it will stop auto scrolling and often settle on the menu MPLS. 
This took several minutes when testing the process on a Blu-ray with close to a thousand MPLS files listed.
You will need to be patient and wait until Process Monitor stops listing new MPLS files as Leawo Blu-ray Player finishes scanning the files. Insert your Blu-ray disc, start Leawo Blu-ray Player, and select your disc. *If nothing is appearing in the activity window, you may need to check this option. This feature will allow you just to view the bottom of the screen. This is because the most recent process started will be the bottom and you will be doing a lot of scrolling if you do not use Auto Scroll. I highly suggest you activate Auto Scroll in Process Monitor under the Edit menu (Ctrl+A). Now Process Monitor will only show processes with MPLS in the file name. Select OK at the bottom of the Filter screen. I like to remove all the other filters not in use. Create a filter by filling in the fields exactly as below and select Add. In Process Monitor, go to the toolbar and select Filter (or Ctrl+L). Run Process Monitor and do the following: You may want to keep it somewhere handy, such as the desktop. Go to the folder where you downloaded Process Monitor and unzip it. One you have both programs installed, you will need to configure Process Monitor with a filter. If you only need something for a limited number of videos or you do not want to spend the money, download the Leawo Blu-ray Player (which requires Java for menus).
This player is slow and something like PowerDVD will be much faster, but cost money.
You will need a Blu-ray player and this tutorial will center around using the Leawo Blu-ray Player. Though included in MakeMKV, I have seen this feature fail many times. There are programs that are supposed to reveal the main movie file, but they can be expensive and not always work. So many in fact that there’s no way the disc could hold that much data. If you look at a Blu-ray disc with a ripping program such as MakeMKV, you will see hundreds of titles that are many gigabytes each. Many Blu-ray discs use title obfuscation to prevent copying the disc contents to hard drive by hiding the main movie or episode files.
